Jacob Hauken is a human detective from Nephalia, Innistrad. He is a geist-talker, and investigator of geist-related incidents.
Description
Jacob Hauken always had an inquisitive mind. That, combined with the uncanny ability to see geists and other spirits, even when they would rather remain hidden, has served him well as the foremost investigator-for-hire of strange occurrences in Innistrad. Young Jacob has already made a name for himself, especially along the Nephalian coast, not only has he managed to solve quite a few mysteries, but he's done so without dying horribly.[1] He is short.[2]
History
Jacob was raised by the Vizag Atum, but left the group after a friend of his was murdered and the group was not interested in finding the culprit. Hauken and his temporary partner Eloise Wicker worked together before the Travails, and rejoined three years later when they were hired by Lord Nellick to investigate a roving geist attacking people in a local township near the Alrun River.
They found that the necro-alchemist Cyril Rav a few months before had misfired a geistbomb - an explosive device fueled with dead souls - that killed many people, including himself. Because of his abilities as a necro-alchemist, the geist Rav was able to possess a living body without that person's permission. He started to gather power and influence by possessing influential people. However, the ghosts misused in the geistbomb incident were bent on revenge and started haunting him under the lead of Millicent. After hiring first Eloise and then Hauken to get rid of his pursuers, Rav - in the form of Lord Nellick - discovered that Hauken had the special powers of the Vizag Atum. He offered Hauken an unusual partnership, which Hauken accepted. The duo disappeared, leaving several bodies behind.[2]
