Whale is a seldom used blue creature type used for marine mammals that can vary greatly in size. Distinguishing features include fluked tails and blowholes for expelling water. They are hunted as a source of meat, blubber, and bone.
The first creature to bear the type was Killer Whale in Exodus. The Narwhal from Homelands was issued errata in the Grand Creature Type Update to become a Whale instead of subtype Narwhall. The third, and last for most of Magic's history, card with the subtype Whale was Great Whale from Urza's Saga. More recently, however, Magic 2014 has added Colossal Whale.
Trivia
Prior to Khans of Tarkir's Wetland Sambar (an elk), whales were the only real-world mammals (aside from humans) to be featured in Blue.
